Decade long search for new building nearly complete
Brothers Redevelopment's long search for a new building to house its construction-related programs is finally over.
In July, the agency closed on the purchase of an 18,730 square-foot facility located at 5500 Logan St. Bought with funds made available though the City of Denver's acquisition of the agency's former construction facility at 2519 W. 11th Ave., the new site features a 5,880 square-foot building that will function as both warehouse and administrative space for Brothers' Home Maintenance and Repair (HMR) and Volunteer Programs.
Located in unincorporated Adams County, the site also will feature a kitchen, accessible showers, conference room and space for a dormitory—all amenities that Brothers hopes to avail to volunteers who participate in its popular Paint-A-Thon and Neighborhood Caretakers Programs.
“It may have taken us more than a decade to get here, but I think we found a site that’s ideal for our needs,” said Mary Ann Shing, Brothers Redevelopment president. “This building will be an asset from which ‘Brothers’ can continue to strengthen its cornerstone programs.”
Indeed. Strategically situated near both I-25 and I-70, the site’s central location will make it easy for the organization to serve a growing number of clients in Adams, Denver, Jefferson and Arapahoe counties. With an ability to house volunteers on the same site its vehicles and supplies, ‘Brothers’ also will see savings in time and fuel costs.
“What can I say? The site is glorious,” said Jason Stutzman, HMR Manager. “Being able to renovate this building to suit our needs at this time in our history will give us an ability to help so many more people in need.”
HMR staff will move supplies and materials into the building throughout the fall, with other renovations slated for completion by spring 2010. Once finished, ‘Brothers’ plans a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house for its clients, stakeholders, local elected officials and the public.
