City employees on Saturday will paint nine homes in two Denver neighborhoods

The Denver City Council tonight will proclaim this Saturday, June 27 as Paint-A-Thon Day in the City and County of Denver.

That's when nearly 200 employees from the city's volunteer group, Denver Employees Volunteer Opportunities (DEVO), will paint the homes of nine fixed- and low-income homeowners in the Cole and Park Hill neighborhoods as part of the 31st Season of the Paint-A-Thon.

When the city's selfless public servants grab those brushes on Saturday, they'll be protecting the senior homeowner's most important investment.  They'll also be preserving property values in two historic Denver neighborhoods.

Over the past several years, DEVO has painted multiple homes as part of the event--consistently serving as its largest volunteer team. As a result of the group's longstanding and sizable contribution, DEVO has become a Paint-A-Thon sponsor.

Denver City Councilmember Carla Madison sponsored the proclamation, which reads as follows:

  • Whereas Brothers Redevelopment, Inc. (BRI), is long-established Denver-based nonprofit organization that provides housing and housing-related services to the metro area’s low-income, disabled and elderly homeowners;
  • Whereas Brothers Redevelopment is working with Denver Employee Volunteer Opportunities (DEVO) to recruit City Employee volunteers to paint the homes of deserving senior homeowners during the 31st Season of the Paint-A-Thon;
  • Whereas all house painting will be completed free of charge for homeowners—saving the city’s fixed-income seniors thousands of dollars in home maintenance costs;
  • Whereas volunteers will be beautifying and preserving home values in dozens of Denver-area neighborhoods as a result of their participation;
  • Whereas 200 Denver City Employees, through a partnership with Denver Employees Volunteer Opportunities and Brothers Redevelopment, will be volunteering to paint homes and improve their energy efficiency;
  • Whereas the Paint-A-Thon has served more than 6,500 residents since its 1980 inception to become one of the largest single-day events that serves the state’s seniors;

Now, therefore, …….I do hereby proclaim Saturday, June 27, as Brothers Redevelopment Paint-A-Thon Day in the City and County of Denver.
